I am off to Weight Watchers.

We There is nothing like Montana, where I spent 5 days in early August. The Sweet Pea Cafe in Bozeman made the most delicious wedding cake for my niece, Sonya. She married Joe Bryan in the most lovely wedding on a spectacular ranch just north of town.

Later in the month, Angela and I went to San Francisco and Los Angeles to eat and, not incidentally, see our customers with our Fall collection. Once we had Patricia Unterman’s new book, San Francisco Food Lover’s Guide in hand, we hardly could decide where to go. But… breakfast at Tartine one day, 3 oysters at the new Ferry Building market on the next day, and fresh nectarines started it off well. Dinner at Zuni Cafe, Delfina, and Niman Ranch cowboy steaks at Fifi’s house in Berkeley were the highlights. Way too much available, much too delicious. Awfully self-indulgent.

In Los Angeles. we had a dinner party at Campanile one night; another evening we had wine and a few bites at A.O.C., followed by a lowdown supper at Mario’s Peruvian recommended that day by the New York Times. We gave it a B. Next time we will try Zankou Chicken.

At home for Labor Day, I made peach cobbler and Moroccan tomato soup with fruit from the garden. Now I am off to Weight Watchers.

Come and see us somewhere soon.
