Alone in Paris.

Instead of a sunny beach in Cabo San Lucas, I had 4 days alone in Paris!

I went to look for scarves, jewelry and inspiration and found all of them — plus some delicious meals! You will have to wait and see the scarves, jewelry and ceramics.

Meanwhile, however let me recommend 3 nice restaurants! La Table d”Aude, Alcazar, and Le Dome’s Bistro. Three different kinds of places — all in Patricia Wells’ Food Lovers Guide to Paris. Eating alone has its pleasures — particularly people-watching. It was cold, rainy and snowy, but it did not really matter. Asiatica clothes were perfect, layered.

What’s New - 2004

Filed under: What's New — asiaticakc

January is the month during which we experiment. We are making a group of fabrics from smaller pieces of old ones in our archive room — linens and silks. By manipulating (piecing, patching, quilting etc.) scrap we make beautiful, and unique, new fabrics. Ultimately most of them will become jackets which you will see in the Spring trunk shows.

We also realize that we have been neglecting our smaller customers as far as ready-to-wear clothing is concerned. We are rectifying that by making smaller sizes in all of our classic shapes, and also introducing a few new shapes just for smaller women.

We also have added several new jackets, vests and shirts to the repertoire, as well as some beautiful new colors and types of Italian linens.

We will be merchandising the clothes a bit differently as well, with everything geared to color. Within each color range, you will be able to find one-of-a-kind vintage fabric pieces, modern Japanese fabrics, as well as Italian linens, new silks and accessories. Time for renewal!!

Hope to see you all soon somewhere on our travels. (meanwhile 10 days at the beach).

Happy New Year. Elizabeth

Food is a vital joy in my life.

If you know me at all, you know that food is a vital joy in my life — one of the other reasons for my relentless trunk-show travel schedule. So whenever I find something noteworthy to eat (or drink), I will try and let you all know about it.

My preferences are generally for earthy and delicious treats of all kinds in those cities where we travel. I subscribe to the Calvin Trillin school of eating — nothing too chic, no convuluted cuisine. So if any of you have any suggestions, please send them.

Reflecting on 2003, these places remain in my memory: New York, Il Laboratorio del Gelato, Congee Village (and the dumpling dive across the street), Tabla, Etats Unis, Esca, ‘inoteca, Otto (with earplugs), Pearl Oyster Bar, City Hall.

Washington DC: Cafe Atlantico, Full Kee.

Los Angeles: AOC, Campanile, and the Santa Monica farmers’ market

San Francisco: Delfina, Boulangerie Bay Bakery, Alemany farmers’ market, Cheese Board in Berkeley.

Houston: Joyce’s

Chicago: Coco Pazzo

I am sure there are more, but I am too full of Holiday treats to consider them. I will try new places soon and let you know.
